The cylinder head is part of an internal combustion engine which closes the top of the cylinders. It is responsible for a number of important functions, including sealing the combustion chamber, directing the flow of air and fuel, cooling the combustion chamber and mounting the valves. There are a number of reasons why you might need to replace a cylinder head, such as damage caused by a collision, a blown head gasket, or a cracked block.
Plus over time the the cylinder head can wear out due to friction and vibration and this can cause the cylinder head to become leaky or warped. In rare cases, the cylinder head can fail completely although this is usually only caused by a manufacturing defect or a severe impact. If your cylinder head does fail it will need to be replaced immediately in order to prevent the engine from seizing up.
